Stone Axis takes its shape from a small cross set with stones at each point, drawn from the wayfinding markers once placed along Viking sea routes through the Baltic and North Atlantic, wooden crosses raised at harbour mouths and headlands to mark where safe water met dangerous shoal, each arm oriented to a fixed direction so a returning ship could read its bearings at a glance even through fog. In Garnet, the stones hold the deep red once used to mark the most treacherous points on a coastline, warnings meant to catch the eye first, while Moss Agate carries the calmer green of water already known and safely charted, the two stones together forming a full reading of a coast, danger and safety fixed at opposite points of the same axis. Stone Axis holds that same fixed cross of direction, four points worn close to the ear, still offering the same quiet certainty once given to any ship needing to know exactly where the safe water lay.
